This month I had the opportunity to visit Victoria Falls, and stayed at the most romantic property on earth, Sindabezi Island. Perfect for Honeymooners, Sindabezi Island is is an idyllic bush camp on a private island on the Zambezi River. It is the only luxury camp in the Victoria Falls region and in 2008 was selected by The Sunday Times in London as one of the best remote places to stay in the world.
Sindabezi Island has just five open-sided thatched cottages, allowing guests to soak up the sights and sounds of the African bush in a perfect untouched setting. Views across the flood plains of the Zambezi and into the nearby National Park complete the experience. Two nights spent in the Livingstone area is hardly sufficient as there is so much to do. An up-close view of the Falls is a must, and there are plenty of adrenalin-filled activities on offer, like swimming in the Devil’s Pool from Livingstone Island (see my photos) but we recommend that you also put time aside to enjoy the tranquility of the lodge itself.
My 2nd night was spent at Tongabezi. Privately owned and run, Tongabezi combines romance and exclusivity with warm and attentive service. Each of the 5 houses and 6 cottages has its own valet who takes care of guests throughout their stay and act as a private concierge.
