Central Kalahari Mobile Safari (8 Days)
This is an adventurous safari, chosen for its less travelled routes through Deception Valley, Tau Pan, and Piper Pan in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana.
You will be met at Maun International airport by your Guide, who will drive you into the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, passing through the Passage Valley (all these valleys are old fossil river beds now, with clusters of trees and grass). The chances of seeing giraffe and cheetah here are very good. Arrive at the camp site (which is all set up!) in the late afternoon. The site at Tau is most spectacular with beautiful views and sunsets over the vegetated Pan – often with a good variety of game grazing in the background. Spend a couple of days at Tau Pan and then continue to the remote Piper Pan in the early afternoon, where you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity around the campfire. Morning and afternoon game drives, with time to relax during the heat of the day.
After a couple of days at Piper Pan, make your way northeast via Lethlau Valley to reach Deception Valley in the afternoon. Spend two days exploring Deception Pan and the adjoining Pans. This area is home to a number of Kalahari animals, such as Springbok, Gemsbok, Red Hartebeest, Brown Hyena and Lion, which we should see on our morning and afternoon game drives. Depart on day 8 after a leisurely breakfast and then bid the Central Kalahari Game Reserve goodbye. Arrive back in Maun in time for outbound flight.
Optional 2 day extension: Drive north and arrive at Deception Valley Lodge in time for lunch. You will be shown to your luxurious chalets and have the pleasure of water on tap! In the afternoon you can have a walk with the Bushmen, who will demonstrate their survival techniques and way of life in the inhospitable land of the Kalahari.
