Natal/Zululand Accommodation

KwaZulu-Natal or the Zulu Kingdom includes Durban, the Drakensberg, Pietermaritzburg and Midlands, Zululand, South Coast, Dolphin or North Coast, Battlefields and East Griqualand regions. Durban is lively and vibrant, and has a long and fascinating history. Kilometres of fabulous beaches make the city a popular holiday resort. It offers plenty of activities, nightlife, casinos and great shops, and away from the city are the rolling green expanses of the Valley of 1000 Hills and t he Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserves.

Learn about the Zulu culture at an authentic Zulu village, and about the various wars fought in this region at a variety of battle sites from the Zulu and Anglo-Boer wars, including Rorkes Drift and Islandlwana. Durban’s beaches are the most popular feature. Spend the day lazing on the famous beachfront, which boasts piers, restaurants, swimming pools, amusement rides and an abundance of water activities. Close by you’ll find flea markets selling bargain-priced ethnic goods and factory shops specialising in clothing. Aliwal Shoal and Sodwana Bay are world-renowned diving spots. Here you’ll have the chance to complete a dive course or venture out as far as you dare. Amongst all these attractions are cinemas, restaurants and taverns, fast-food outlets and amusement arcades. Public transport is regular and reliable, taxis are plentiful and there is also a fleet of Thai-style ‘tuk-tuk’ three-wheelers for a more exotic, if somewhat slower, journey.
