This month I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful Okavango Delta. I was sponsored by Ker & Downey (Botswana) and Tongabezi Island (Victoria Falls) These are my diary entries . I hope you enjoy them as much as I did..:)

06 Oct: I am currently sitting in a 6 seater plane, flying over the Okavango Delta. It is a searing 45 degrees. I can see tiny hippos and elephants below. The swamps of the Delta vein their way below me, the lifeblood of Africa. My heart is in my mouth as we fly higher and higher. We touch down at our 1st camp, Kanana. I can’t believe I am here.

The prestigious Ker & Downey portfolio includes: Shinde and Kanana Tented camps, in private reserves in the Okavango Delta, as well as Okuti – an ideally situated lodge within the renowned Moremi Game Reserve. The latest addition, is the Kanana Mokoro Trail – an exclusive experience to discover the Okavango Delta in a traditional canoe (mokoro). The Okavanago Delta is a magical oasis, surrounded by the sands of the Kalahari Desert, formed by ancient seismic shifting of the earth’s surface. Water in the desert is a spectacular sight in these crystal-clear channels.

Moremi Game Reserve supports the most diverse habitat and animal populations in Botswana. Resident species include wild dog, cheetah, leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, hyena, zebra, kudu, lechwe, sable and roan antelope.

During my 4 night stay with Ker & Downey, I spent one night in each of the following camps:

06 Oct: Kanana consists of 8 twin bedded spacious tents and is a hidden jewel set on the Xudum River in the southwest of the Okavango Delta. The nature of the habitat means it is the perfect place to experience the diversity of species found within the Okavango Delta.

07 Oct: Okuti offers 5 twin bedded rooms & 2 family rooms accommodating up to 18 guests.  This delightful camp lies alongside the Maunachira River which flows through the Xakanaxa Lagoon, within the world renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Okuti has recently been rebuilt amidst the wilderness of one of Botswana’s prime game viewing regions.

08 Oct: Shinde has 8 twin bedded classic safari tents, nestled on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta.  Shinde is an intimate camp located on the edge of Shinde lagoon, teeming with animal and birdlife.  There may be an opportunity to visit the exclusive Shinde Enclave camp.

09 Oct: Footsteps Across the Delta offers a specialist safari experience and you’ll be based at a small tented camp accommodating maximum of 6 guests.   Overnight at Footsteps, which offers expertise in guiding with the emphasis on walking. This program maintains the elegance and eccentricity of the original ‘under canvas African safari’.
