I’ve been wanting to holiday to Mauritius for a long time. I try to get away once a year – I think it’s important to have something to look forward to throughout the year – it keeps you hanging on and pushing through, to have a special holiday to look forward to. So at the end of 2014 we decided on Mauritius. It is very close to South Africa and easy to get to. You can get direct flights from Cape Town or Jo’burg with Air Mauritius. On arrival we were picked up by Beachcomber Tours. It is one hour’s drive from the Airport to the North West of the island. There is great shopping and markets here, so get your driver to drop you off for a morning. You drive through fields and fields of sugar cane. It is a very beautiful and rural place.
We stayed for 7 x nights at Le Victoria Hotel in a Superior Room. I Site Inspected all 8 of the Beachcomber Hotels while I was there. They cater for all budgets, from 4 star to 5 star, and all hotels are beautiful. If you are able to go on a 5 star budget, I would stay at Shandrani in the South, or Troux Au Biches in the North, they are absolutely magnificent, and the beaches are supreme. I would recommend going on an all inclusive basis. Needless to say I put on 3 kgs – the chefs and outdoor dining and French cooking are magnificent. All wine, cocktails, beer and champagne are included. So I now have to try very hard to lose the weight again. The snorkelling and water sports are great fun, and we spent each day lazing on the beach drinking Pina Coladas. A real peaceful holiday. We did the dolphin tour where you can swim with the dolphins in the wild. I would definately do it again. Low season is from May – October when the rates are great. Here are a few pictures of our stay.
